About Sundara Kandam:
Sundara Kandam is the fifth section (Kandam) of Srimad Valmiki Ramayanam and consists of 68 chapters (sargas) containing total of 2885 verses (slokas). Sundara means “beautiful” and rightly Sage Valmiki has named this section as “Beautiful Section” – Sundara Kandam. Lord Hanuman is the hero of this section and section elaborates the virtues of Lord Hanuman in crossing the mighty ocean in search of mother Sita; overcoming obstacles on the way; entering the capital of Sri Lanka; finding mother Sita; identifying himself to Sita devi; vanquishing a part of Ravana army; meeting with Ravana and thereafter laying the foundation for subsequent victory of Lord Rama; returning back to Kishkinda to inform the Lord about his successful visit in search of Sita devi.
